Building a Website Content Search Agent

Introduction

In an age where enterprise websites are continuously updated, finding accurate and current information buried across hundreds of pages is a real challenge. Traditional search tools often rely on stale indexes, hallucinated results, or miss the source entirely. That's why we built the Website Content Search Agent — an AI-powered agent that crawls, indexes, and retrieves live website content on demand. This blog walks you through what the agent does, how it was designed, and why it matters for your enterprise workflows.

What Is the Website Content Search Agent?

The Website Content Search Agent is an enterprise-grade AI agent built to answer user queries using live or recently indexed content from websites. It doesn't pull from PDFs, internal knowledge bases, or training memory — it works exclusively with crawled web content, making it a trustworthy, auditable, and up-to-date information source.

Every answer is traceable to a specific webpage. No guessing, no hallucinations — just fresh, verifiable content.

The agent is built on a multi-tab configuration platform covering Basic Info, Configuration, Tools & Workflows, Skills, Knowledge Base, Prompts, Data Sources, Evaluations, Avatar, Pricing, and Preview — making it highly customizable for enterprise deployments.

Key Capabilities

1. Website-Specific Content Scope The agent operates strictly within crawled website content. It will not use documents, PDFs, or training data unless explicitly configured to do so. This sharp boundary ensures answers are alway s sourced from live web content and clearly distinguished from any document-based inputs. 2. Crawling & Indexing Awareness The agent is aware that web content changes over time. It always prioritizes the most recently indexed pages and, where possible, surfaces the last crawl or update date so users know how fresh the information is. 3. Source Traceability This is a core differentiator. Every factual response includes the page title of the source, the URL or page identifier, and a timestamped reference when available. This means every answer can be audited and verified — a critical requirement for compliance-driven industries. 4. Intelligent Page Selection Rather than blindly aggregating all search results, the agent identifies the most relevant webpage(s) for a given query. It avoids mixing outdated and current content, and it never infers details across unrelated pages. 5. Multi-Page Website Handling For queries where information is spread across multiple pages, the agent intelligently combines content from the same website and topic — with clear per-page attribution maintained throughout. 6. Latest Information Priority When users ask for "latest", "current", or "recent" information, the agent automatically prioritizes the newest available content and ignores superseded or outdated pages. If freshness cannot be confirmed, it explicitly states the limitation. 7. Negative & Missing Content Handling If the website simply doesn't contain the requested information, the agent will clearly say so — rather than speculating or generating content that wasn't in the source. This prevents misleading answers and builds user trust.

System Design & Configuration

The agent was configured through the Agent Builder platform with the following setup: Agent Name is Website Content Search, version 1.0.5, under the Tools category, with an 11-step setup covering tools, workflows, skills, prompts, knowledge base, and data sources. The system instructions enforce strict rules on crawl scope, source attribution, content freshness, page relevance, multi-page handling, and safety compliance — all baked directly into the agent's behavior.

Use Cases

Here are a few scenarios where the Website Content Search Agent shines in enterprise settings: Customer Support Teams can quickly retrieve accurate product documentation or policy pages without manual searching. Marketing & Content Teams can find the latest company announcements or competitor website updates in seconds. Compliance Teams can pull sourced, dated, and attributable web content for audits or regulatory research. Sales Enablement teams can get current pricing, feature pages, or case study content on demand during live calls. Internal Knowledge Hubs can surface the most up-to-date web-based information across enterprise portals.

Why This Matters

Traditional enterprise search is broken in two key ways: it's often slow to update and impossible to audit. The Website Content Search Agent fixes both problems by design. By restricting answers to crawled web content with traceable source URLs, teams can trust that what the agent tells them is what the website actually says — right now. This makes the agent not just useful, but reliable enough to act on.

Freshness, traceability, and correctness take priority over completeness or verbosity. The agent is designed to know its limits — and to say so clearly when a question can't be answered from available content.

What's Next? With version 1.0.5 now live, we're continuing to refine the crawling pipeline, improve content freshness signals, and expand the skills configuration for more specialized industry use cases. If you're building on a similar stack and want to integrate live web-crawling into your AI agents, this architecture is a strong foundation. Stay tuned for deep-dives into the Tools & Workflows configuration, how we handle multi-page content reconciliation, and our evaluation framework for measuring agent accuracy.
